Hi Garth,This letter is in response to a question about cell phone use in the U.S. I have used an Apple iPhone (that was not tied to a Canadian service provider) in the U.S and purchased an AT&T chip so I could buy service in the U.S. as their service charges are much less than in Canada and you can easily add to the service over the phone with a credit card.

You can also buy an inexpensive phone in the U.S. and pay as you go. The initial service is approximately $60 that allows you to receive calls from Canada and call anywhere in the U.S. If you visit the AT&T website they will tell you what is included in the services. You can also buy services for the U.S. from Canadian service providers like Rogers for an extra fee.
