Cambridge, Ontario, August 16, 2024 – The 50th Anniversary Roadtrek Rally rolled into the scenic Guelph Lake Conservation Area on August 13, 2024, with more than 115 current and classic Roadtrek motorhomes from across North America bringing 450 enthusiastic campers, vendors, partners and Roadtrek employees to celebrate this historic milestone.
Roadtrek CEO Massimilano Miletto Petrazzini and his team were on hand throughout the rally to welcome visitors with their famous Canadian hospitality – it was a reunion of old friends and industry veterans, and an event that ran like clockwork from start to finish.
As one of the Groupe Rapido family of RV manufacturers, Roadtrek builds the Westfalia class B motorhome line for North America. Roadtrek Rally participants were treated to a preview of one of the 2025 Westfalia Wave models, as part of their visit to the Cambridge, Ontario plant.
Jeff Hanemaayer, former owner of Roadtrek, was on hand with his late father Jac Hanemaayer’s custom 2006 Roadtrek – a prototype that encompassed a wide array of innovations, some of which were integrated into various models over the 2006 – 2016 era.
The event began with Tuesday arrivals and camping setups in a very well organized dry camping area, and a special “VIP” area for those requiring special accessibility. On-site facilities included ADA portable washroom comfort trailers in addition to the Guelph Lake Conservation Area restrooms, games, St. John Ambulance first aid, potable water filling stations, dump station, a seminar pavilion, and a central stage for welcoming speeches, presentations, and musical entertainment. Rally shuttles were available to take visitors to the various activities. Roadtrek staff were available with golf carts to provide assistance.
After settling in on day one, the main attraction on day two was a Roadtrek plant tour, hosted by Roadtrek Head of Sales and Customer Care Len McDougall. Tours were scheduled throughout the morning and early afternoon, so everyone could see how the motorhomes are built. Eight groups of approximately 24 people each participated in this highly anticipated opportunity to see the Cambridge, Ontario plant.
While some of the manufacturing processes are top secret, we were able to see a wide range of the ultra-modern production facilities, including cabinet making, holding tank testing, and chassis modification areas. It was fascinating to see how the custom molded holding tanks are tested, and how the unique configurations of the black water, grey water, and fresh water tanks utilize every available square inch within each Roadtrek model, providing the greatest amount of water supply possible for each van. We also learned about the multiple quality control checks performed on every unit, including weather and driving tests, to assure that the best possible product is delivered to each customer.
Throughout the day, experts from Truma, the Roadtrek customer care team (Sean Heintz), the Roadtrek R&D department, and Firefly conducted seminars on a wide range of technical subjects, with opportunities for rally attendees to compare notes on the many tips and suggestions that come from years of experience on the road.
Members of the Roadtrek International FMCA chapter were instrumental in the planning of the event.
Roadtrek Marketing Manager Kylie Johnson excelled in her role as MC for the Rally, including the special addresses and entertainment on the main stage, featuring the five-piece band Coalescence, who performed an eclectic mix of rock, R&B, blues and jazz that had rally attendees dancing in the campground throughout the evening.
We will post video clips of the presentations over the next few days, as footage becomes available from the PR team covering the event.
The Rally featured an array of exhibits in the “Vendor Alley”, providing a wide range of products and services, including tech support and repairs by Canadian Roadtrek dealer Mobilife, and US Roadtrek dealer Beaver Motors.
Dining at the Rally was a gastronomic delight, with Tuesday’s Pizza Social hosted by the Roadtrek International Chapter of FMCA, and Wednesday’s dinner, an elevated take on traditional campground BBQ and the rich culinary heritage of the region, curated by Tree Line Catering.
A full array of event sponsors helped make this an outstanding experience for guests and industry participants…
